Emergency Furniture Program
Recycled Treasures accepts referrals from any agency that serves Hamtramck residents and Detroit 48212 residents. Referrals are given to those with a documented emergency such as a fire, a homeless shelter stay, domestic violence, or a recent release from prison.
Recycled Treasures will give these families one large item such as a couch or kitchen table and chairs; linens, silverware, dishes, pots and pans, towels, blankets and pillows, as available.
The following are a list of agencies that we work with regularly:
- Dept. of Human Services
- Friendship House
- Peoples Community Services
- Wayne Metro Community Services
- Wayne County Dept. of Public Health
Bottles to Benches
The students of participating schools in Hamtramck, Michigan have collected over 40,800 gallon #2 plastic bottles to be recycled into Park Benches for their schools.
Funding is needed to cover the cost of recycling the bottles into boards, and assembled into benches. The benches will last forever.
What a super gift you can be a part of! Won’t you become one of the supporters for this environmental project? Think of the surprise these deserving children could have on their return to school after the holiday break…
Dick Kaleski, a Recycled Treasures board member, started this project and is single-handedly collecting the bottles from the school, getting them processed and paying for them to be turned into benches or finding the funding to make this happen.
Recycled Treasures supports this effort by providing transportation and labor to get the collected bottles to the processing plant.
Beds for Kids
Recycled Treasures is raising funds to purchase new mattresses for low income families in need of beds for their kids. We are committing a portion of our proceeds from the sale of recycled art sold at our store.
Recycled Treasures has received help from Hamtramck and Detroit SOUP to purchase 10 mat- tress sets ― for every 10 that we sell ― we can give away a set to a child in our area, who does not have a bed, plus we will give them sheets, pillows and blankets.
